Negative calorie foods

low caloric content

Negative calorie food – a key to slimming or a myth of nutritionists?

Of course, foods with negative calorie content do not exist, but what does it mean when nutritionists use the expression “negative calorie food”? The fact is that there are occasions when the organism spends more energy from the process of digestion of a product, than it receives calories from this product. Thus, it turns out that we eat low calorie foods, but spend more calories to assimilate these products, due to the fact that the digestion requires much more energy expenditure than it is contained in the products themselves.

It’s no secret that in order to lose weight we need only to spend more calories than we get, it means that the balance consumption/expenditure must always be in favor of the expenditure of calories. Eating foods with low caloric content, we solve this problem. That is, for example, while eating celery, we can say that it is eating us, because its calorie content is negligible, but the energy is spent in large quantities.

What products can boast their “negative” calorie content?

First of all, many vegetables, especially green: cucumbers, asparagus, beets, broccoli, cabbage, squash, daikon, vegetable marrow, cauliflower, celery, chilli, dandelion, endive, watercress, garlic, green beans, salad lettuce, arugula, onions, radishes, spinach, sorrel, turnips, zucchini, eggplant, bell peppers.

Fruit and berries: apples, cranberries, grapefruit, lemon, mango, papaya, pineapple, raspberry, strawberry, tangerine.

Herbs and spices: ginger, chili, cinnamon, mustard seeds, flax seeds, fennel seeds, cumin, coriander.

Mushrooms are the best product with negative calorie. They are rich in protein and dietary fiber; they will leave you satiated for a long time.

Seaweeds contain a lot of iodine, mineral trace elements and dietary fiber, and therefore, they have the same “negative calorie content”. Sea kale can also be attributed to this list.

In addition, we need protein foods: lean fish, shrimps, chicken breast, veal, turkey, tongue, etc.

Plain water or mineral water without gas – the last point and very important. Thanks to the water, the body is cleansed of toxins, the skin becomes elastic, metabolic processes are accelerated.

How to cook the negative calorie content foods

Of course, it is recommended to use the minimum of a thermal treatment so that the foods do not lose their useful properties, and there is more dietary fiber in raw vegetables than in boiled or stewed. The best option is to make different salads. Advisable to fill such salads by a sunflower or an olive oil, lemon juice or natural yogurt with no additives.

So, we don’t have to torture ourselves by hunger, and eat quite hearty and delicious food, and at the same time the caloric intake will not exceed the established norm.
